ABC/White House Merge

… Well, according to Drudge anyway, and the facts he lays out in his story are distressing, if not terribly surprising:

On the night of June 24, the media and government become one, when ABC turns its programming over to President Obama and White House officials to push government run health care—a move that has ignited an ethical firestorm!

Highlights on the agenda:

ABCNEWS anchor Charlie Gibson will deliver WORLD NEWS from the Blue Room of the White House.

The network plans a primetime special—‘Prescription for America’—originating from the East Room, exclude opposing voices on the debate.

In the coming days we’re likely to learn a thing or two about the editorial chain of command that led to this extraordinary decision. My guess is that as this plays out there will be a great many network executives pointing fingers at one another.

This may be the most one-sided editorial decision made by a network since 60 Minutes floated a bogus memo to smear President George W. Bush.
