About

Consider This News (CTN) was launched in 2009 by Patrick Hynes (R) and Peter Daou (D). The site casts a critical eye on news and newsmakers and presents opposing views on current events from politics to pop culture, examining the amalgam of ‘news’ delivered to the public through the mass media. Neither collaborator endorses the content of his co-blogger’s posts. [As of 11/1/09, Peter is on leave.]

Patrick Hynes
Patrick Hynes is the President of Hynes Communications. In this capacity he served as the blog outreach consultant for Sen. John McCain’s Straight Talk America PAC and the McCain-Palin 2008 campaign.

An experienced political operative and consultant, Hynes has helped hundreds of candidates win public office. National Journal described Hynes as “a hack with a pretty good record of electing Republicans.” The American Conservative called him “an expert on evangelical voting patterns.” And Campaigns & Elections named Hynes a “Rising Star in American Politics.”

Hynes is the author of the book In Defense of the Religious Right (Nelson Current). His other writings have been published in the Financial Times, USA Today, the New York Post, the American Spectator and the New Hampshire Union Leader among other venues.

Hynes has appeared as a guest on ABC World News Tonight, Fox News Channel’s Hannity & Colmes, Good Morning America, CNN Talk Back Live, C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, C-SPAN 2’s After Words, and even E!.

He lives in New Hampshire with his wife Michelle and their children Rose (4), Grace (2) and Declan (newborn).

Peter Daou
Peter Daou is a political consultant who has advised leading campaigns and organizations including Hillary Clinton for President, the United Nations Foundation, Clinton Global Initiative, AARP, Planned Parenthood and Nuclear Threat Initiative. Peter directed netroots outreach and online rapid response for John Kerry’s presidential campaign. In 2006, he joined Hillary Clinton’s senate re-election campaign as an Internet adviser and in 2007 became Internet Director for Hillary Clinton for President.

Peter is a regular source on social media issues for news outlets including the Washington Post, AP, ABC News, New York Times and Wall Street Journal. He has been a frequent speaker and panelist at conferences including Harvard Business School’s Cyberposium, Forbes MEET, and the Personal Democracy Forum. Peter’s site, The Daou Report, which he published until joining Clinton’s team, was a popular blog and opinion aggregator.  His widely-read analysis of netroots influence, The Triangle: Limits of Blog Power, has been described by techPresident as “a seminal essay on the interaction between the blossoming blogosphere, the political establishment, and the press.”

Peter grew up in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war. At 15, he was conscripted into the Lebanese Forces, a sectarian militia, and served until he entered the American University of Beirut. He moved to New York in the early eighties to complete his philosophy degree at NYU. Peter now lives in New York with his wife and daughter. He is an online communications adviser to several political and public policy institutions.
